My name is Borja Aguilera Obaldia, born and raised in the Basque Country. With a passion for languages and sports, my career has been filled with a variety of experiences both in Europe and the U.S., which have fueled my desire to bring high-quality, continuous language learning programs to the city of Boise.

 

My Story

I was born in a small town called Amurrio, in the Basque Country, where I grew up learning in a bilingual or even trilingual setting, just like all my peers. Over there, regardless of whether you attend a private or public school, in a big city or a small village, languages are an essential part of every child’s education. Being able to offer that same opportunity has become my goal now that I’m based in Boise.

 

I grew up playing many sports, and my interest in athletics greatly influenced my choice of college studies. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, I went on to complete a second Bachelor's in Kinesiology, followed by a Master’s in Secondary Education and Language Teaching.

 

During my teaching career, I’ve had the opportunity to work with various elementary and high schools, as well as with different organizations. From schools in San Sebastián, to soccer teams in small towns, these experiences made me realize that there are many effective and creative ways to teach and learn.

 

These diverse opportunities led to me being selected as an exchange language teacher and researcher on behalf of the Basque Government at Boise State University in 2019. At BSU, I met Justin Snyder, with whom I partnered in founding Suntree Language Academy in 2021, which offers preschool, K-5 after school, and Summer Camp language immersion programs. This was our first language school in Boise.

 

Since then, our programs have grown. Today, Boise Language Schools offers French and Spanish immersion programs across various locations for children ages 0 to 12, while our Suntree Adult Center provides a range of private and group language classes for adults. 

 

Currently I am the Director of El Sol Language School for Children at Brumback and Boise ave locations, the K-5 after school and Summer Camp programs at Suntree Language Academy, and our Language Center for adults.
